Welcome New Shooters!
Thunder Tactical Shooters is a nonprofit organization of private individuals that hosts defensive pistol competitions for the enjoyment of IDPA members in Southeast, Texas.

Our host range "Thunder Gun Range" is located in Montgomery County, north of Houston, between Conroe and Porter off FM1314.  Come out and join a great group of people who enjoy the experience of participating in structured, safe and fun defensive pistol shooting.

Special Friday the 13th Workparty!
Thanks to all those who came out and helped repair the bay walls on Friday, January 13th.  We were able to get the Bay 2all back into good condition for Saturday's monthly match and add support to the other walls.  Hopefully, we won't have to deal with any more wall failures.

Special thanks go to Raul Sotelo and members of the Kidlat USPSA club who came out and helped with the work.  It was a "lucky Friday the 13th" and we managed to rescue the sinking tractor without losing anyone in the 25 yard bay mud hole!  Eric, Bill, Tony, and Ed manned the shovels and drills with Ricky doing great work (as usual) with the tractor.

An Upcoming Match You Should Know About
Thunder Tactical Shooters often drive to locations across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and even Oklahoma to compete in IDPA Matches.  Some of our shooters travel to Tennessee, North Carolina, California and even Florida.  It's actually THAT much fun!

If you're interested in competing in another great Texas match check out this link to the Lone Star Championship being held in North Texas in October 2012.  Sure, that's a long way off (almost 10 months) but this match is filling up fast.... and you don't want to miss out!

IMPORTANT - TTS Club Bylaws

Beginning in 2012, all shooters will be required to review the new 2012 TTS Club Bylaws, then sign and return a one page acknowledgement form to the Club Secretary, Eric Cooper, when paying the $10 annual club membership & insurance dues. Members are covered anytime they are at the range during an official function of TTS, either practice or match. But you are not covered by our insurance when you shoot in other than club scheduled functions, practices, matches & special events.

Go to CLUB NEWS to find the 2012 form.

2011 TTS Annual Business Meeting

A great year-end luncheon was held on the afternoon of December 10, 2011.  This was after the regularly scheduled Monthly Match.  20 Shooters attended the TTS year end luncheon at Mama Juanita's Mexican Restaurant.
Eric Cooper reported on the TTS year end financial statement, and the new slate of 2012 club officers was announced to those in attendance.

  • Al Liczwek - President
  • Ricky Gilbert - Vice President
  • Eric Cooper - Secretary/Treasurer
  • Darrell Sells - Director
  • Charles Morris - Range Manager
Sunday!  Sunday!  Sunday!
Thunder Tactical Shooters is going to offer a classifier this coming Sunday, January 29th.  The classifier is shot to determine your shooter category.  This is used when competing at some local and all regional and state IDPA matches.

Shooting the classifier is also a great way to see where your strengths and weaknesses are in gun handling, accuracy, and reloading skills.

Space is limited!  This means that you must notify Ricky Gilbert by email at rgilbert7@comcast.net prior to Sunday to be included to shoot the classifier.

About Defensive Multi-Gun

IDPA was created around the defensive use of a handgun.  However, we recognize that there are a lot of rifles and shotguns placed in closets, trunks, bedsides, etc. as defensive tools as well.  In an effort to include the use of these tools, IDPA Defensive Multi-Gun (DMG) was created.

There are 4 divisions for DMG. There is an iron sight and optic sight division for major caliber rifles and there are iron sight and optic sight divisions for pistol caliber carbines only. We feel that the pistol caliber divisions will bring out a whole new level of challenge and fun to an already exciting format.

TTS Official IDPA Monthly Match

February 11, 2012

This match is scheduled to have a total of seven separate stages.  The stages will include some variation of movers, pop-up targets, steel targets and other challenges that our weekly Wednesday match doesn't.

The Monthly Match is created to be more challenging and helps those shooters who compete at the regional or national level "tune-up" for upcoming matches.
Don't worry if you're not a competitive shooter though ... we guarantee that everyone will have fun shooting this match!
